Wow. There's a prospect. I guess my dream school would be staffed with passionate teachers who were challenging pedagogy as we know it and trying to find the best way forward for ALL of their students.
There would be constant conversations between support and teaching staff - guidance and learning support and careers would be as active with all of the students as teachers are.
The timetable would be flexible. Students could move the stuff that needs serious concentration to the times that work for them. Teachers could be accessible.
There would be good aircon,
The Food tech students would run a cafe.
The library would be an active learning space - it would not have to be quiet.
There would be comfortable chairs everywhere and variable seating/standing options for staff and students.
Whiteboards would be mobile.
Wifi would be stable and fast and everywhere.
There would be time set aside for TEACHER learning - as if we are to lead, we need to model lifelong learning.
PD would be effective and appropriate and driven by inquiry or need rather than cost and efficiency.
Staff would be less hung up on why a student had the wrong shoes and more positive that they were actually AT school and engaged.
The AV tech would be able to come when my projector went on the fritz
We would be housed in ONE building.
Offices would be hotdesked - free range - so senior managers don't get too comfortable in there!
There would be no 'Maths block' or 'Science block' - we would have mixed areas and appreciate each others strengths - AND be able to get to know staff from other curriculum areas! Meet for lunch etc.
I wouldn't have to drive 45 mins to get there.
There would be no ONE WAY to assess - variable options would be available to suit the needs of the students. They could select their medium for assessment AND using self management - work out when on their calendar it would best fit to be assessed - within a timeframe.
Staff would participate in PLNs or PLDs or whatever they want to call them. There would be a buzz as people discussed things on a professional level and DIDN'T take disagreement personally! Ok that's perhaps a bridge too far for some! :-)
Ahhh such is the stuff of dreams.....
Here's to making it more of a reality.
And on to April - just got this one in under the wire!
